Automatic Evacuation of a Failed Compute Node Overview

Automatic Evacuation of a Failed Compute Node (Node Evacuation) occurs if a cloud compute node fails due to a hardware malfunction or other reasons; instances are automatically evacuated to again make them available. When the node is no longer available, the action defined in the recovery field is executed.

Upon failure of a compute node, any instance marked with Auto Restart is automatically evacuated to another compute node and is restarted. However, if the instance is marked as No Restart, the user must take manual action to evacuate or restart the failed node. Only instances managed by Stratus Cloud Workload Services are eligible for node evacuation. OpenStack only supports evacuation of instances that are active or stopped. Paused or suspended instances cannot be evacuated.
